LOW MOISTURE CASTOR OIL
Low moisture castor oil, also known as dry castor oil, is a type of castor oil that has had most of the moisture removed. This is done through a process of vacuum drying, which removes water content down to around 200-500 ppm. Regular castor oil has a moisture content of 6.24 – 12.56%. Low moisture castor oil is a lighter color, has a longer shelf life, and is used in a variety of industrial applications.
More concentrated
Low moisture castor oil has a lower moisture content than regular castor oil, making it thicker and more viscous. This concentrated form can be beneficial in situations where a stronger dose of ricinoleic acid is desired.
Longer shelf life
Because it contains less moisture, low moisture castor oil has a longer shelf life than regular castor oil. This is because water can promote the growth of bacteria and mold, which can shorten the lifespan of a product.
Fewer impurities
The process of removing moisture from castor oil can also help to remove impurities. This can make low moisture castor oil a better choice for uses where a pure product is desired, such as in cosmetics or pharmaceuticals.
Wider range of applications
Due to its lower moisture content, low moisture castor oil is better suited for industrial applications that require minimal moisture, such as in the production of adhesives, inks, and coatings.
